What I do

Four ways to get real food on your table.

Every service below includes the whole job — planning, shopping, cooking, and cleanup. You pay for the service; groceries are billed separately at cost.

$260–$350per week

Personalized Meal Planning

A custom dinner menu for the week, built around what your household actually likes to eat and what it can't have. I write the menu, shop for it, cook it fresh in your kitchen, and leave the recipes with you.

Five dinners a week · Households of 3–5 · Menu written per household

$300–$400per dinner

Private In-Home Dinner

A multi-course dinner cooked and plated in your home. Anniversaries, birthdays, a Friday that deserves better than takeout, or a small dinner party you'd rather enjoy than run. You host — I handle everything, including the dishes.

One price for the evening, not a per-plate charge — the rate covers up to four guests, and larger tables add $55 a head. A party of ten runs about $730, roughly $73 each for a multi-course dinner cooked in your own kitchen.

Typically 3–4 hours · 2–20 guests · $55 per guest over four

$200–$300per week

Weekly Lunch Prep

A week of lunches portioned and stacked in your fridge, ready to grab. No midday scramble, no fourth sad sandwich, no $18 spent on a mediocre lunch out because there was nothing at home.

Lunches for the week · Portioned and labeled

Specialty & Anti-Inflammatory Diet Planning

Menus built for real medical and dietary needs — anti-inflammatory eating, gluten-free, dairy-free, low-sodium, and elimination diets. This is the part most people struggle with alone: food that fits the restriction and still tastes like something you'd choose.

What's included

The whole job, not just the cooking.

Not included: groceries. They're billed separately at cost with receipts — or you order them yourself and I pick them up. No markup either way.
  • Menu planning around your household. Tastes, allergies, diets, the kid who won't touch anything green — it all goes into the plan before anything gets cooked.

  • A full shopping list. Written out for the menu, so you always know exactly what's going into your food.

  • The shopping itself. I shop for the menu, or pick up an order you've placed, or work from what's already in your pantry.

  • Cooking in your kitchen. Everything is made fresh on site — nothing arrives pre-cooked in a cooler.

  • Cleanup before I leave. Counters wiped, dishes done, kitchen back the way you like it. This is the part people tell me they miss most when they cook themselves.

  • The recipes, left with you. If a dish becomes a household favorite, you should be able to make it on a Tuesday without me.

Versus eating out

Less than a restaurant. Better than takeout.

A real week of five dinners for a family of five, with groceries priced at Fred Meyer in Bellingham. Compared honestly, including the one option that's cheaper than me.

Takeout, five nights

$331

about $13 a plate

The cheapest option, but you don't get a say in the salt, the oil, or the portions.

Thyme to Dine, five dinners

About $525

about $21 a plate, groceries included

Cooked fresh in your kitchen, on a menu written for your family. The dishes are done before I leave.

Casual restaurant, five nights

$650+

$26 a plate before tax and tip

With a 20% tip it's about $780, and that's before you count the driving and the wait for a table.

When I'm cooking, you decide the salt.

  • Food from restaurants and takeout runs higher in sodium, saturated fat, and cholesterol, and lower in fiber, than food cooked at home.
  • In a national study of 8,668 adults, households that cooked dinner at home most nights ate a measurably healthier diet than households that rarely did.
  • People eating home-cooked meals more than five times a week ate more fruit and vegetables than people eating them fewer than three times.

Based on my $350 weekly rate for five people plus about $175 in groceries: a real client shopping list (chuck roast, steak, pork shoulder, chicken, ground beef and sides) priced at Fred Meyer North Bellingham in September 2026. Your grocery bill depends on the menu, and pantry items like rice, butter, and sauces often last into the next week. Sources: takeout and home grocery costs from SummitPlate's 2026 index; restaurant cost from DiningRated; nutrition from the USDA Economic Research Service and two studies in Public Health Nutrition.

How it works

Three steps, and the first one is free.

01

A free consultation

We talk through what your week looks like, what your household eats, what it can't have, and what you're hoping to hand off. Fifteen minutes on the phone is usually enough.

02

Your menu and quote

I send back a proposed menu with a shopping list and a flat service price, plus an honest grocery estimate. You change anything you want before I buy a single thing.

change anything — nothing's bought yet

03

I cook, you eat

I shop, arrive, cook in your kitchen, portion or plate the food, and clean up. You get the recipes and a fridge that solves dinner for the rest of the week.

The food

No garnish theater. Just cooking done properly.

Good protein, cooked to temperature. Vegetables that taste like vegetables. Sauces built in the pan, not squeezed from a bottle. The kind of food you'd order out and then wish you could eat every week.

Who's cooking

Hi — I'm Blake. I cook in other people's kitchens for a living.

Thyme to Dine is me: one chef, working directly with a small number of households across Whatcom County. There's no rotating staff and no call center. The person you talk to on the phone is the person standing at your stove.

I started this because the two hardest parts of eating well aren't cooking — they're deciding what to make and finding the time to make it. That's the part I take off your plate, whether that's dinners for a busy family, a night that needed to feel special, or a diet a doctor handed you with no instructions on how to actually live with it.

Questions

Things people ask before booking.

How much does a private chef cost in Whatcom County?

At Thyme to Dine, weekly dinner planning runs $260–$350 per week, a private in-home dinner runs $300–$400 for up to four guests plus $55 for each guest after that, and a week of prepped lunches runs $200–$300. Groceries are billed separately at cost. Final pricing depends on household size and how involved the menu is — you get a firm number before anything is booked.

Do you charge per person for a private dinner?

Not per plate. A private in-home dinner is one flat price for the evening — $300–$400 — and that covers up to four guests. Bigger tables add $55 a guest, because a larger group genuinely means more shopping, more prep, and more courses going out at once.

So a party of six is about $510, ten is about $730, and twenty is about $1,280. Notice what happens per head: $85 each at six, $73 at ten, $64 at twenty. The base spreads out, so the more people you seat, the less each one costs. Groceries are billed separately at cost with receipts and no markup.

You get one firm number in writing before anything is booked. No per-head service charge on top, no gratuity expected, no surprises on the night.

Can you cook for a large party of 15 or 20 guests?

Yes — 20 guests is comfortably within what I run in a home kitchen, and it's a good chunk of what I do for vacation rentals and corporate stays.

Up to 12 guests I plate every dish individually. From 13 to 20 I serve family style on platters, and that's a deliberate choice rather than a compromise: with one chef and a home stove, platters mean every course reaches the table hot and everyone eats together instead of watching the first four plates go cold. If you'd rather have individually plated courses at that size, I bring a second pair of hands for $250.

Pricing works the same at every size — $300–$400 for up to four guests, then $55 a guest — so a party of 18 comes to roughly $1,170 before groceries. Above 20, call me and we'll talk it through properly.

Do you serve Birch Bay, Semiahmoo, and vacation rentals?

Yes, and it's one of the things I do most. I'm based in Blaine, which puts me minutes from the Birch Bay and Semiahmoo rental areas. I cook arrival dinners, stock breakfasts, and handle multi-day meals for vacation rental guests, property managers, and corporate stays. If you manage properties and want something to offer guests on arrival, call me and we'll set up a standing arrangement.

Are groceries included?

No — and that's deliberate. Service pricing covers planning, shopping, cooking, and cleanup. Groceries are billed separately at cost with receipts, so you're never paying a markup on a pound of chicken. If you'd rather order the groceries yourself, I'll pick them up or work from what you have.

Do you cook in my kitchen?

Yes. Everything is made fresh on site. I arrive with the groceries, cook in your kitchen, plate or portion the food, and clean up before I leave. Nothing shows up pre-cooked in a cooler.

Can you work around allergies and specific diets?

Yes, and it's a real part of what I do rather than an afterthought. I build menus around allergies, intolerances, and specific diets including anti-inflammatory eating, gluten-free, dairy-free, low-sodium, and elimination diets. Dietary needs are collected during the consultation, before the menu gets written.

How long does a service take?

A private dinner is typically three to four hours including prep, service, and cleanup. A meal prep session usually runs two to four hours depending on how many meals we're making. You don't need to be home for meal prep — many clients aren't.

Do you cook for vacation rentals and corporate clients?

Regularly. Arrival dinners for guests, stocked breakfasts, multi-day stays, and team dinners. If you manage properties in Whatcom County and want something to offer guests that isn't a list of restaurants, get in touch — I work with property managers on repeat arrangements.

What towns do you serve?

Blaine, Ferndale, Bellingham, and Lynden, plus the surrounding Whatcom County area. Somewhere farther out? Ask — locations outside the usual radius are quoted with a travel fee up front, never added afterward.
